Thrifty Thursday-Curtain Rod Photo Display

Happy Thursday! It is an especially happy Thursday for me since today starts my hubby’s vacation. We both teach, but he always opts to teach summer school for a few weeks during our typical summer breaks. We have the next two weeks off together before we both go back for the new school year.

So for today’s Thrifty Thursday I thought I’d show you all something I made over three years ago. I promise I came up with the idea all on my own. It was before I was even introduced to the wonderful world of Pinterest. About 3 months later, I was surprised to see that other people had similar ideas-And that is also when I quickly became obsessed with pinning.

The idea came to me after we had our Newborn Photo Shoot 12 days after our little guy was born. We ordered beautiful prints. They were pretty large and not on typical photo paper. I wanted to display these special shots in a gallery type way, but because they were printed with a rather thick backing, I didn’t want to frame them. They also have this beautiful matte finish that I didn’t want to ruin by sticking the prints behind shiny glass. I remembered that I had recently purchased an inexpensive curtain rod that was far too scrawny to be used for any window that we had at the time. It was tucked away in a closet collecting dust. So, I dug it out, along with some pretty brown satin ribbon, needle and thread and (as usual) got to work. I ended up attaching the ribbon to the photos using self adhesive Velcro. It worked perfectly.

Google defines Thrifty as:
thrift·y
ˈTHriftē
adjective
1.(of a person or their behavior) using money and other resources carefully and not wastefully.

This, my friends, is a perfect example of not being wasteful! I almost tossed this curtain rod away because I wasn’t going to be able to use it the way I had intended. I am so glad I didnt. My curtain rod photo display was one of the first décor pieces we hung in our new home. It is still the only thing on that wall, but we are heading out to the flea market tomorrow and I hope to find the perfect table to refinish to add to this area!

When is a time that you thought outside of the box and used something in a completely different way? It is so fun to get creative and be resourceful at the same time. I hope you guys liked this idea and my take on how to display photos.

I hope you have a happy day!
